Olivia Nakito is a 30 yearpartv old resident of Butega, Ntikide in Mityana district.
She joined the skilling project that is being implemented by URDT Institute in June to September,2023 through Mr. Ssemakula a trainer at Butega Station in Mityana district.
Before the training, Olivia was a hair dresser in Kansanga Town in Kampala district earning shillings 5,000/= on a daily basis.
She decided to do piggery because of the guidance she attained from her husband that was originally practicing piggery. Her interest in the business was to enable her get self-employed.
During the three months training, Olivia was introduced to how to manage the sanitation in a pig sty, how to feed, vaccinate, marketing skills, record keeping, business planning and communication skills.
Later on, she transitioned to work with only one million Uganda shillings
that was given to her as support from her spouse and she used it to buy three piglets and one sow.
Currently, her business has expanded to fourty pigs. “I have also trained community members especially with the similar business on how to vaccinate their pigs in order to prevent diseases in this area at their farms because this is my area of specialization”.
Through pig farming, I have been able to pay school fees for my children and can never lack anything. I am grateful to URDT I and Mastercard Foundation for I am a respected and reputable lady in this locality.
My vision is a butcher and expansion from forty pigs to two hundred pigs by December 2025.
I am going to achieve this through monthly savings for I am saving at least shillings 100,000/= on a monthly basis.
