Dr. Mwalimu Musheshe, Vice Chancellor of African Rural University (ARU) and Co-founder of the Uganda Rural Development and Training Programme (URDT), successfully participated as a panelist in the African Union STEM and TVET Pedagogical Innovation Bootcamp held in Kigali, Rwanda from 26–28 May 2026.
Organized by the African Union Commission (AUC) through its Department of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (ESTI), the bootcamp brought together educators, policymakers, technical experts, and industry stakeholders from across Africa to strengthen Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) systems and advance innovative STEM-based teaching approaches.
The initiative forms part of the African Union’s efforts to implement Agenda 2063, the Continental Education Strategy for Africa (CESA 2026–2035), the Continental TVET Strategy, and the AU Decade of Education and Skills Development (2025–2034).
During a panel discussion on Digital Tools and Simulation-Based Learning for TVET, Dr. Musheshe shared insights on the use of digital resources and innovative teaching methodologies that enhance learning quality, learner engagement, and industry relevance. Participants also engaged in practical workshops on learner-centred, interdisciplinary, digital, and competency-based STEM pedagogies facilitated in partnership with STEMPower.
The bootcamp highlighted the critical role of innovative, technology-enabled education in preparing Africa’s youth with the skills, creativity, and entrepreneurial mindset needed to drive sustainable socio-economic transformation. It also provided a valuable platform for sharing experiences, strengthening collaboration, and promoting best practices in STEM and TVET education across the continent.
Dr. Musheshe’s participation highlights continued commitment to advancing transformative education, innovation, and skills development that empower communities and contribute to Africa’s sustainable future.
